You're about to embark upon an exciting journey into the Peruvian Amazon.
The Amazon CyberSchool is a unique two way portal that offers the opportunity
for members to learn about the environment in the Amazon, communicate with
people just like themselves living there, and share stories about what they
are doing to promote a more sustainable world. Want to get involved? See
the overview presentation below.

For a nominal annual fee about $1 a day American schools and
organizations can sponsor a Peruvian school and become members of ¡Amigos!
A Partnership for Education.
Besides unlocking total access
to this two-way, media-rich web experience,
the funding
1) provides resources to schools,
2) supports community development efforts,
3) and helps teachers develop new educational tools.

Classroom Improvement:
Schools in rural villages are typically a one-room schoolhouse without electricity
or textbooks. Sponsorship helps schools buy desperately needed supplies,
such as pencils, chalk boards, and exercise books.
School/Village Partnerships:
Peruvian schools frequently participate in community development projects
as part of their commitment to the ¡Amigos! program. Projects such as installing
solar pasteurization systems for clean drinking water, offering workshops
on organic gardening, and developing interpretive nature trails transform
schools from their traditional roles as a learning place for children to
dynamic, vital life-long learning centers for the entire village.
Teacher's
Academy:
The ¡Amigos! program offers experiential workshops for American and
Peruvian educators on curriculum development and delivery, pairs Peruvian
teachers with scientists for informational sessions, and provides
an ever-expanding resource toolkit right here on the web. It also
provides access to a series of unique field workshops in Peru. [more]
